Penny Video and Noeltan are pleased to announce the release in home video (DVD + Booklet) of the film Montedoro by Antonello Faretta.
Inspired by the true story of the protagonist Pia Marie Mann, Montedoro tells the return to the homeland of a middle-aged woman, who grew up in America with an adoptive family but determined to rediscover the memory of her true natural parents. The places told by the film are those of Craco, in the province of Matera, a suggestive ghost town where the present is mixed with an archaic past. As the director says: “One day, while traveling in my region, I found myself in an abandoned place. A country that has become a ghost following a major landslide fifty years ago. And then an American woman came looking for her mother in this broken carcass that had once been a community. This woman sought among the ghosts, among the dead that lie on the hill of the village. I convinced myself that I had to stay there to spy between the cracks in the town and this woman”.
The film was successfully presented at festivals such as the Montreal Film Festival, Visions du Réel and Annecy Cinéma Italien, collecting the praises of international critics: “a courageous and necessary film” (Il Fatto Quotidiano), “impalpable and powerful, a Italian history and the pleasure of an unexpected cinema “(Il Manifesto),” a film where reality gladly sweeps into the dream “(Film TV). Subsequently, the film was released in the hall in 2016 by Noeltan.
The DVD will be available in major Italian stores from December 12 (and in the bookshops online), in a special plastic-free edition created for the international market, with subtitles in English, French and Spanish. The film will also be accompanied by exclusive special contents (including the video presentation of Adriano Aprà and many cut scenes) and a booklet edited by Jean Perret. The edition is produced by Penny Video thanks to the contribution of the Lucana Film Commission and the Basilicata Region with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid.
